24th/25th November 2007 - Essex Special Age Group Relays

Romford win the top team trophy, for the 9/10 and 11/12 year old relays

Romford Town demonstrated its strength in depth as at the same time the club were winning the overall Senior & Junior Essex title; its youngsters were winning the top team trophy, for the 9/10 and 11/12 year old relays. Having set the benchmark in recent years by winning this trophy, three times in the last five, they were picking it up again this year.In competing in seven out of the eight finals contested it was this consistency that helped them gain the trophy again.

The 11/12 year old boy’s led the way as twelve year olds Joseph Stamp and Alex Goodacre were joined by two eleven year olds, Harry Coker and George Ellis as the quartet swam to 3rd place in the 4 x 50 metre medley relay and freestyle relays.

The 11 / 12 year old girls team, disappointed at missing out on the freestyle relay, in being 1st reserve for the final, took a good 4th place in the medley relay with Claire Jackson swimming the Backstroke leg, Bethany Hall, Breastroke, Elena Sheridan Butterfly and 11 year old Sophie Thompson swimming the final, freestyle leg.

On the following days competition, it was the turn of the younger 9/10-year olds: Swimming in the boys relay team were ten year olds, Sam Bishop, Luke Sheridan, Sam Hollington and nine year old Frank McGuirk as they were 2nd in the 4 x 50 metre medley relay and gained another medal in the freestyle relay, where the quartet managed 3rd place.

Nine year olds Sophie Ward and Bethany Moore joined ten-year-old Victoria Christmas and Ellie Pereira as the quarter gained 4th place in the freestyle relay. Megan McAuliffe replaced Bethany Moore in the medley relay, where the team gained another good 4th place finish.

Well done to all swimmers that competed in either the above teams or in the “B” teams. All swimmers played an important part in the weekends success.
