RTSC Gala Reports

Saturday 1st May - Ron Phillips Trophy Gala - Southbury

Town had a very small team available for Enfield’s latest invitational gala and the non-availability of many swimmers afforded others the opportunity to shine.

13 year old Rosie Webber was certainly one to grab the mantle as she was an impressive winner in both the Girls 15 years and under 50m Butterfly and the Ladies Open 50m Butterfly. She had to settle for 2nd place in the 15 and under Backstroke, but was involved in a third win when she combined with Anne-Marie Smith (13), Emma Aston (13) and Vanessa Sutton for the 15 and under Medley Relay. Chloe Thompson (just 10) replaced Smith in the under 15 Freestyle Relay and helped the girls to a very good second place. Vanessa Sutton also swam well for second place in the individual 50m Freestyle event.

The boys also scored good points in the 15 and under category with Alex Goodacre first in the 50m Butterfly and 2nd in the 50m Backstroke. Michael Fearon, Conor Toolis and Sam Allsop (12) joined Alex to secure runners up spot in the Medley Relay, whilst Sam Hollington (also 12) replaced his namesake to take 3rd place in the Freestyle Relay. Sam Allsop also swam well for 3rd place in the individual 13 and under 50m Breaststroke.

The Ladies Open Freestyle Relay was won when Isabel Allsop, Gina Dickson and Vanessa Sutton (15) joined up with the very busy Rosie Webber. The same quartet also achieved second place in the Medley Relay. In addition to Rosie’s Butterfly win in this section, Gina was second in the Backstroke and 3rd in the Freestyle, whilst Isabel took 2nd place in the Breaststroke.

The Men’s team were also amongst the points as David Ward, Andrew Ward, Laurence Goodacre and Alex Goodacre (15) joined forces to win the Freestyle Relay. Unfortunately injury prevented Andrew from taking any further part in the competition, but Conor Toolis (15) was a capable replacement as 3rd place was achieved in the Medley Relay. Individual 3rd places were also earned by Laurence in the Backstroke and Freestyle and David in the Breaststroke and Butterfly.

The 11 and under Boys also scored heavily with Tommy Beardsell winning the 50m Backstroke and Ben Davis the 50m Freestyle. There were also 3rd place swims for Liam Fearon (10) in the 50m Breaststroke and Oliver Coles in the 50m Butterfly. The boys combined to good effect for the relays winning the Freestyle and placing 3rd in the Medley.

Chloe Thompson achieved 3rd place in the Girls 11 and under 50m Butterfly and joined Maddie Webber, Megan Witton (10) and Hannah Dearman-Tur for 3rd place successes in both of the relays.

On a very entertaining night at Southbury the final scores were:
