RTSC Gala Reports

Saturday 12th September 2009 - Essex Mini League - Rochford

Town embarked on their final Mini League gala of 2009 with many olde regulars away at Stubbers on a team-building weekend. Despite being only two weeks into the new season and still easing back into full training, Town's youngsters displayed fantastic technique, effort and team spirit, but saw 10 'Time Faults' scupper any chance of an RTSC win on the night.

Town still managed to win 20 of the evening's 48 events, with their first success coming from Zac Coleman in the Boys 11 year old Backstroke. The Boys Breaststroke Relay quartet of Harry Taylor, Liam Fearon, Billy Wilson and Mitchell Wilson also took maximum points, whilst the Girls team of Sophie Mascall, Lorna Bo, Georgia Milton and Daisy Nolan-Day came home in third.

No points accrued from the 10 and under Backstroke events with Chloe Thompson and Aiden Jackson both picking up time faults. Aiden’s was the result of a surprise 5-second PB. Courtney Wilson also beat the clock in the Girls 13 and under Freestyle, before Toby Mascall swam to an impressive 2nd place in the Boys event.

David Ward was our next 'time-faulter' in the Boys Open Butterfly event. The Girls 10 and under Breaststroke saw a good 1st place for Hannah Binning, before Ben Davis produced a fine 4-second PB to earn himself a time-fault. The Girls 11 and under Breaststroke events saw Lileigh Argent and Sam Ellis swim to good 2nd and 1st places respectively.

Vanessa Sutton, Rebecca Stamp, Charlotte Chuck and Courtney Wilson picked up 2nd place in the Girls Open Freestyle Relay. Andrew Ward, Tom Benson, David Ward and Sean Houlihan were too fast in the Boys event.

The next four events were all Freestyle and they all produced wins for Town with Jessica Watts and Robert Benson successful in the 10 and unders and Yasmin Morris and Mitchell Wilson in the 11 and unders.

Rebecca Stamp helped us out with a win in the Girls Open Backstroke just before her return to University. Whilst David Ward time-faulted again in the Boys Open Backstroke. The 13 and under Breaststroke events saw a win for Kieran Gore and a 2nd place for Charlotte Chuck.

At the halfway point Town were back in third place, trailing Canvey Island by 4 points.

Chloe Thompson, Victoria Bishop, Yasmin Morris, Courtney Wilson, Rebecca Stamp and Vanessa Sutton gained second place in the Girls Squadron Butterfly Relay. Whilst the Boys managed a win through Mitchell Wilson, Zac Coleman, Toby Mascall, Connor Houlihan, Andrew Ward and Sean Houlihan.

There was a good win for Jodi Whitehead, Yasmin Morris, Lileigh Argent and Michelle Hughes in the Girls 11 and under Freestyle relay and a time-fault for Ben Davis, Connor Houlihan, Toby Mascall and Sam Ellis in the Boys event. Lewis Julian was third in the Boys 13 and under 50m Backstroke. Vanessa Sutton and Tom Benson were both 2nd in their Open 100m Freestyle events.

Sophie Mascall, Lorna Bo, Daisy Nolan-Day and Georgia Milton were second in the 9 year old Girls Freestyle Relay, whilst Liam Fearon, Billy Wilson, Harry Taylor and Mitchell Wilson were winners for the Boys. There was an excellent win double for Town in the 10 and under Butterfly events from Victoria Bishop and Zac Coleman. Hannah Binning also achieved a first in the 11 and under event, but Connor Houlihan time-faulted.

The Squadron Breaststroke Relays brought a win for both of Town’s teams with Victoria Bishop, Hannah Binning, Maddie Webber, Jodi Whitehead, Rebecca Stamp and Vanessa Sutton going for the Girls and Harry Taylor, Aiden Jackson, Connor Julian, Kieran Gore, Andrew Ward and David Ward for the Boys.

In the final group of individual events Toby Mascall was 2nd in the Boys 13 and under Butterfly, 11 year old Jodi Whitehead won the Girls Open Breaststoke with a new PB time of 41.05 and Tom Benson was second in the Boys Open event.

There were second places for both of our under 13 Freestyle Relay teams with Courtney Wilson, Charlotte Chuck, Jodi Whitehead and Yasmin Morris swimming for the Girls and Tom Benson, Lewis Julian, Toby Mascall and Kieran Gore for the Boys.

The penultimate event produced a win for Chloe Thompson, Maddie Webber, Hannah Binning and Jessica Watts in the 10 and under Freestyle Relay whilst the night ended with Town’s 10th time-fault from Aiden Jackson, Robert Benson, Ben Davis and Sam Ellis.

Final Result:

  1. Rochford 191
