This Summer Festival returned to Rugby's Ken Marriot Leisure Centre Pool this year and is a favourite with many of the Town swimmers. It is now a regular on their fixture list.

Most of those that competed took on a varied schedule of events and, with medals awarded for the top 6 places, most Town swimmers came away with a prize. With so many outstanding performances Romford Town also wrapped up the Top Visiting Club Award, some way clear of 2nd placed City of Peterborough.

Town swimmers picked up medals from the very first event, the Girls 200 metres Freestyle. 11 years old Emma Aston's silver was closely followed by a bronze for sister Sian in the 14 years age group. 13 years old Harriette Davis who was only able to compete on the Saturday, ahead of a school trip to Germany, got off to a flying start with the first of her 3 golds on the day.

12 years old Joshua Rogers broke the 2mins 30secs barrier for the first time in taking the bronze medal in the Boys 200 metres Freestyle event and 13 years old Alfie Burr showed that his season has gone from strength to strength as he got his medal collection off to a fine start with a silver. Tom Toolis and Jake Harrison tied up the top of the 15 years age group with respective 1st and 2nd places.

There was an exciting encounter in the Girls 100 metres Butterfly as Nicola Rees and Jessica Coles battled it out for the honours. Rees took the early advantage and, although 0.09secs separated them at the end, Coles took the spoils with Rees 2nd.

12 years old George Ellis, who set new personal best times each time he swam, got his race programme off to the best possible start with Gold over 100 metres Butterfly. Alfie Burr collected another silver, with 14 years old Thomas Clark taking a Bronze. Thomas Toolis's time of 1min 05.44 of was good enough for his second win of the morning.

9 years old Maddie Webber, 10 years old Bethany Moore and 11 years old Rosie Webber all grabbed 3rd places from their 50 metres Backstroke swims, before 13 years old Rachel Welsh added another Gold with a PB time of 32.96secs. In the boys event George Ellis took silver and 15 years old Andrew Ward a Bronze.

The opening event of the afternoon session brought a medal of each colour for Romford's girls in the 200 metres IM as Jessica Coles, Nicola Rees and Sian Aston finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in their respective age groups. There were medals galore in the corresponding Boys IM event as 11 years old Sam Bishop got his weekend under way with a win and a PB time of 2mins 50.50secs. Alfie Burr's PB time of 2mins 33.27secs brought him his first Gold medal and in the 12 years age group Ellis and Rogers were 2nd and 3rd. Thomas Clark and Jake Harrison both picked up their second medals of the day with silvers apiece.

Harriette Davis's second Gold came over 100 metres Backstroke as her time of 1min 09.97secs saw her dip under 70secs for the first time. Team mate Rachel Welsh came in 2nd and in the 11 years category Rosie Webber was 3rd, both securing their second medals from Backstroke events. Three Silvers and a Gold were added in the Boys 100 metres Backstroke. The first of these came from Sam Bishop and Charles Davis in the 11 years age group, as they kept the rest at bay with 1st and 2nd places. George Ellis and Thomas Toolis took the other silver places.

In the final events of the afternoon, the Boys and Girls 50 metres Butterfly, Toolis made it win number three and Nicola Rees was in complete control with the fastest swim from all of the girls, to secure her first win. There was another PB from Andrew Ward and a time of 31.47secs brought him silver. There were 3rd places for some of Romford's youngest competitors, 9 years old Oliver Coles, 10 years old Megan McAuliffe and 11 years old Victoria Christmas. Thomas Clark added a bronze to his growing collection.

Rosie Webber was again 3rd in a Backstroke event, this time over 200 metres and Harriette Davis made it three from three events with a winning time of 2mins 28.79secs. 16 year old Martin Butterworth was also a winner in the 16 years and over category. Town had further success from the 14 years old Girls with Sian Aston taking the win and Gabrielle Wallace slicing 4 seconds off her previous best for 3rd place. This time Emma powered to Gold and Sian took Silver. Sam Bishop resumed where he left off the previous evening with yet another Gold in the Boys 400 metres Freestyle event.

There was again a tussle between Nicola Rees and Jessica Coles in the Butterfly event, this time over 200 metres. The outcome was similar to that over the 100 distance with Coles taking the win and this time Rees finished 3rd. 10 years old Sophie Ward also turned in a gritty performance to take 3rd place in her age group. In the Boys event, Thomas Clark carved more than eleven seconds off his previous best to snatch 2nd place and Thomas Toolis made it six wins from seven swims. Alfie Burr won the 13 years event with another impressive display. 10 years old Toby Mascall finished in the top three, but was unlucky to be disqualified for a one handed turn.

The sprint Breaststroke swimmers were next in the medals with wins for both Megan McAuliffe and Gabrielle Wallace and 3rd places for Maddie Webber, 12 years old Shara Islam and 13 years old Danielle Butterworth. Jake Harrison swam a PB time of 33.71secs to win the Boys 15 years age group and Oliver Applebee was the second fastest 11 years old to claim his second medal.

The Romford team's winning momentum was carried through into Sundays last session with Maddie Webber taking a well deserved Gold in the Girls 200 metres Breaststroke.
