Friday 23rd/Saturday 24th October 2009 - English Schools National Finals - Rochford

Two of Romford Town's swimmers were involved in the English Schools National Finals at Crystal Palace over the weekend. Both James Kidd and Elena Sheridan were representing Division 8 which encompasses the counties of Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex along with the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, Waltham Forest and Havering.

Elena, nursing a ricked neck and unable to compete in the junior freestyle relay, was agonisingly 0.01 second outside the Essex Under 16 100m Butterfly record in her heat posting a time of 1:05.12. However, less than an hour later she raced in the final. In a tense battle against Kristina Neves of Guernsey, she managed to win in a time of 1:05.02 retaining her Junior English Schools National title along with her first Essex Under 16 County Record (subject to ratification).

James, joining the team at the overnight hotel late on Friday evening following a school rugby tour, secured 10th place in the corresponding Junior 100m Fly event in a time of 1:13.02.

Congratulations to both of our swimmers for representing their region in the National Finals. As an event winner, Elena should now be selected to swim for the English Schools Team against Scotland, Ireland and Wales early next year,
