Romford Town’s promising youngsters again excelled at Enfield’s annual open meet.
Georgia Milton was the outstanding performer in the Girls 9 years old age taking home six gold medals and one silver. The wins came in the 200m Individual Medley, 200m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke, 200m Breaststroke, 100m Individual Medley and 50m Backstroke. Another massive personal best earned her 2nd place in the 50m Butterfly.
Town's talented 9 year old Boys were also amongst the medals with Jack Rice winning the 400m Freestyle by over one and a half minutes. He showed his all-round potential by following this up with 2nd place swims in the 200m and 50m Breaststroke and 3rd places in the 200m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke. David Brooks was also in good form, winning silver in the 100m Individual Medley and bronze in the 50m Butterfly. Harry Taylor, swimming his last competition as a 9 year old, celebrated with bronze medals in the 200m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle. Jacob Smith continues to progress well and won a good silver in the 50m Backstroke.
The Girls 10/11 year category also saw numerous Town successes with Stephanie Tomlinson first in the 50m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle, second in the 200m Backstroke and 3rd in the 100m Backstroke and 200m Breaststroke. 10 year old Erin Corney took the gold medal in the 100m Individual Medley. The fast-improving Victoria Bishop, also 10, took 2nd place in the 200m and 50m Breaststroke. Ellie Harris turned in her best performances since joining the club and was rewarded with bronze medals in the 200m Individual Medley and 200m Freestyle. Another 10 year old, sprint specialist Chloe Thompson, won bronze medals in the 50m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle.
In the Boys 10/11 years age group Zac Coleman won the 400m Freestyle with team mate Sam Ellis close behind in second place. Zac was also 3rd in the 100m Backstroke. Tommy Beardsell won bronze in the 100m Breaststroke.
There was also considerable success in the Girls 12-13 category with Rosie Webber gaining 1st place finishes in the 200m and 100m Butterfly, 200m Freestyle and 100m Individual Medley,second places in 200m Individual Medley, 100m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly and 3rd place in the 400m Freestyle. Anne-Marie Smith continued her recent improvement and was rewarded with 3rd place in the 50m Breaststroke.
In the Boys 12-13 category Sam Bishop swam well for 1st place in the 50m Butterfly, 2nd place in the 50m Freestyle and 3rd place in the 100m Freestyle. There were second place swims for Luke Sheridan in the 200m and 100m Butterfly events. Sam Hollington was 3rd in the 50m Backstroke.
There was success too in the Boys 14-15 years age group with 14 year old Tom Benson winning the 100m Breaststroke and Alex Goodacre 2nd in the 100m Backstroke and 3rd in the 100m Butterfly.
There were plenty of medals for Town in the 16 years and over age group, With Gina Dickson first in the 200m and 50m Breaststroke and 200m Backstroke, second in the 100m Individual Medley, 100m Breaststroke, 50m and 100m Backstroke and 3rd in the 200m Backstroke. David Ward won the 100m Butterfly, 50m Butterfly and 50m Breaststroke.
Over the weekend Town swimmers achieved well over a hundred top-six swims and it was also pleasing to see some encouraging swims from 9 year old Hannah Okunwobi and 10 year old Annie Houseago in their first open competitions.
