RTSC Gala Reports

17/18 May 2008 - London Borough of Enfield Open Meet - Southbury LC

A large contingent of Romford Town’s up and coming swimmers attended Enfield’s annual open meet.

9 year old Toby Mascall got Town’s weekend off to a flying start with 2nd place in the Boys 200m Butterfly, this despite swimming in a tough 11 year and under age group. In the same category William Harding, showing a welcome return to form, picked up an impressive haul of medals with golds in the 100m and 200m Backstroke and in the 100m Freestyle, along with a silver in the 50m Backstroke and bronze medals in the 50m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly. Teammate Oliver Applebee took silver in the 200m Breaststroke, whilst 10 year old Luke Sheridan was in excellent form to take 2nd place in the 50m Butterfly and Freestyle events and 3rd place in the 100m Freestyle. Samuel Hollington, also 10, showed what he is capable of with a good bronze in the 200m Backstroke.

Emma Aston was in impressive form for the 11 and under girls coming 1st in the 200m Freestyle, 2nd in the 400m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke and 3rd in the 100m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley. Lindsay McLachlan swam well for 3rd place in the 200m Breaststroke.

There was also plenty of success in the 12-13 year Girls category with Rachel Welsh winning the 50m and 100m Backstroke, coming 2nd in the 50m Freestyle and 3rd in 100 Freestyle. Gaby Wallace continued to impress in her favourite Breaststroke events winning silver at the 50m, 100m and 200m distances. Lily-Rose Fancourt, 12, produced a massive PB to take 3rd place in the 12-13 year 100m Butterfly.

In the 14-15 Boys events Tom Toolis won gold in the 200m Freestyle and silver in the 200m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke.

14 year old Sian Aston was 1st in the 14-15 years 50m Breaststroke and 3rd in 100m on the Saturday, before her weekend programme was unfortunately curtailed by illness.

16 year old Sam Whitehead, swimming in the 16 and over age group, was 3rd in both the 50m Back and 200m Individual Medley.

There were many superb swims from many other Town swimmers who, despite not winning medals, are now starting to reap the rewards for the quality and quantity of training that they are committing themselves to.

Well done everyone.
