Romford Town swimmers were in action at the weekend competing in the second round of this year's Essex League Division One competition.Romford Town swimmers were in action at the weekend competing in the second round of this years Essex League Division One competition.
The 11 year boys were in commanding form as Kieran Gore and Calum Connelly won both their two individual races. Kieran winning the 50 metre Breaststroke and Butterfly whilst Calum gained maximum points in the 50 metres Freestyle and Backstroke. The pair was joined by Connor Houlihan and Tommy Beardsell to make it a clean sheet of wins in this age group as they romped away with the Freestyle and Medley relays.
The 11 year old girls were also in good form as Sophie Ward won the 50 metre Butterfly, whilst Bethany Moore did likewise in the 50 metre Freestyle. Bethany went on to gain 2nd in the 50 metre backstroke and the pair were joined by Hannah Binning and Yasmin Morris to take 2nd in the 4 x 50 Medley and Freestyle relays.
At the other end of the age group scale, the men’s open category, maximum points were gained in all six of their events with Daniel Stepton winning the 100 metres Backstroke and Butterfly, James Davis winning the 100 metres freestyle and Sean Houlihan winning the 100 metres Breaststroke. In the men’s Medley relay, Dan Stepton, Sean Houlihan, Tom Clark and James Davis won this relay in fine style whilst Alfie Burr came in for Sean in the Freestyle relay to help win this event too.
The open ladies team of Nicole Raymond, Nic Rees, Kay Hamilton and Kira Fawke were just narrowly beaten into 2nd place in their Medley relay, but made sure of 1st place in the Freestyle relay. There were 2nd place finishes for Nicole Raymond in the 100 metres backstroke and Kira Fawke in the 100 metres Freestyle.
In the 13 years age group, Rosie Webber, Amy Gore, Brock Whiston and Victoria Christmas took top honours in winning both their Medley and Freestyle relays with Victoria Christmas also winning the 100 metres Freestyle and Brock Whiston doing likewise in the 100 metres Butterfly.There was a very tight finish in the 13 years 100 metres Backstroke with three swimmers recording the same times as Rosie Webber was given 2nd place. Amy Gore was 2nd in the 100 metres Breaststroke also.
Harry Coker was 1st in the 13 years 100 metres Butterfly and gained 2nd in the 100 metres Breaststroke whilst team mate Charles Sturley was 2nd in the 100 metres Backstroke. The pair were joined by Luke Sheridan and Sam Allsop as the quartet won their Freestyle relay and came 2nd in the Medley relay.
In the girls 15 years age group there were wins for Bethaney Hall in the 100 metres Breaststroke, Rachel Welsh in the 100 metres Backstroke and Harriette Davis inthe 100 metres Freestyle. Amy Beardwell-Lacey was 2nd in the 100 metres Butterfly and the quartet joined forces to comfortably win both their Medley and Freestyle relays.
Sean Houlihan won the Boys 15 years 100 metres Breaststroke and was joined by Alfie Burr, Tom Benson and Joshua Rogers as they came 2nd in the Freestyle relay.
The last event of the evening, the squadron relay (one boy, one girl from each age group), saw Romford finish on a high as Hannah Binning, Connor Houlihan, Victoria Christmas, Luke Sheridan, Rachel Welsh, Tom Benson, Nic Rees and James Davis came away with another 1st place finish.
