2nd December 2007 - BWF Winter Meet
Romford split themselves in half at the weekend, as one team competed at the Guildford Open meet,
whilst another was competing at Waltham Forest.
With 200 metre distances for the under 11’s and 100 metre races for the 11’s and over’s this was a good
opportunity to try and gain Essex County qualifying times in addition to gaining competition experience.
10-year-old Victoria Christmas took her opportunity well, as she convincingly won the 200 metres
Breastroke and Frontcrawl.
For the boys, nine-year-old Toby Mascall was picking up a medal in the 200 metre distances, as he was
third, whilst teammate Oliver Coles was 5th in the 200 metres backstroke. In the ten-year age group,
Sam Allsop was 5th also in the 200 metres backstroke.
Nine year old, Bethany Moore just missed out on 3rd place having to settle for fourth in her 200 metres
backstroke, whilst George Ellis gained a 3rd in the 11 years boys 200 metres breastroke.
Competing in the 11 years girls’ age group, Sophie Thompson gained 1st place in the 100 metres Butterfly
2nd in the 100 metres backstroke and 6th in the 100 metres breastroke.
Emma Aston swam well to gain 3rd place in the 100 metres freestyle, whilst Rosie Webber was 6th in
the 100 metres Butterfly.
Twelve year old Conor Toolis was picking up a medal as he gained 3rd in the 100 metres Butterfly and
was 5th in the 100 freestyle. Competing in the 12 years age group for girls, Lily Rose Fancourt gained
5th place in the 100 metres breastroke.
David Ward was 4th in the 100 metres breastroke and 6th in the 100 metres backstroke swimming in the
14 years category, whilst Isabel Allsopp gained a top sixth place in the 13 years 100 metres freestyle.
In the girls’ 14 years category, Emma McAuliffe was 3rd in the 100 metres Butterfly, Backstroke and
5th in the 100 metres freestyle.
