Enough Excitement For One Morning?
B Squad's training was cut short this morning following a fire alarm.
Fortunately, it was soon after 7am so most of the session was completed, but none-the-less space suits had to be worn as squad members were ushered to huddle outside Abbs Cross waiting for the Firemen to give us the all clear.
Well done to all squad members for acting responsibly and putting up with the cold for the 10-15 minutes they were waiting outside.
Hopefully teachers and schools were sympathetic as to the reason for being late in.

The newly added events will have YES next to them.
RTSC Officials Qualify at Redbridge
As well as a great weekend for RTSC in the pool, it was also a great weekend for our Officials on poolside. It started on Saturday when Veronica Smith completed her Judge Level One. On Sunday the weekend got even better when Nigel Drury completed his Judge Level One and Dave Weston completed his Judge Level Two. Congratulations to all three.
Qualified Officials are very important to the club. Without them the club could not compete in the various swimming leagues we do. More importantly, the club would not be able to host the Galas we do and generate the funds that help to keep costs down for parents. Therefore it is important we have more parents to come forward to train as Officials. There is very little time involved beyond the Galas you will attend already. Please consider offering your help in this important roll. Contact Jim Rourke to find out more about what is involved.

Jack Petchey Achievement Award Winners
Romford Town Swimming Club’s Jack Petchey Achievement Award winners for the first half of 2012 received their awards on last Monday evening at the Queens Theatre in Hornchurch.
The awards were presented by ex-Paralympic gold medallist Danny Crates. Rebecca Cribb and Georgia Milton were amongst over 100 award winners from London and Essex present.
Established in 1999, The Jack Petchey Foundation gives grants to programmes and projects that benefit young people aged 11-25. The Foundation exists to raise the aspirations of young people, to help them take advantage of opportunities and play a full part in society.
Jack Petchey Achievement Award Nominations
It's time to get your thinking caps on and place your nominations for the next round of voting for the Jack Petchey Achievement Awards Scheme.
The Achievement Awards Scheme enables the club to recognise, reward and celebrate the achievements of our young members. It is not about being the fastest or the more gifted, but about recognising efforts and contributions of members. It works well because the swimmers themselves are involved in the nominating of individuals and selecting the winners. The winner will be given the opportunity to make a financial contribution to the Club they are involved in.
Each winner receives:
- A framed certificate
- A Jack Petchey young achievers badge
- £200 to be spent on a club project nominated by the young person
We are also looking for suggestions/ideas to add to our ‘wish list’ of things to spend the money on. This can include additional training equipment, specialist courses or funding for fun events such as discos, days out etc. If you have any suggestions please email them to romfordtownsc@aol.com.
Nominees must be between 11 and 25yrs and the voting for the first period of 2012 is now open. Anyone from the Club can nominate so let’s get thinking and get the nominations in. Please email your nomination, along with your reasons why that individual should be nominated, to romfordtownsc@aol.com by the 15th November 2012.

Well Done Amy Marren!
Amy had a great start to her Paralympic campaign on the opening Friday with a PB over 100m Backstroke which catapulted her into the evening Final. Another great swim in the evening showed her potential as she turned 3rd at the half way point. Although unable to hold the speed of the older ladies in the closing stages she still managed a fabulous 4th place finish.
Given a few days to rest up she was back for the 400m Freestyle on Tuesday and a strong 3secs PB in the morning heats again put her in the evening mix. A well paced evening swim saw her again smash her morning best by a further 3secs to finish just outside of the medals with a fantastic 4th place.
She was back in action the following morning where another PB over 50m Freestyle saw her finish as a reserve finalist this time.
Congratulations to Ron and Val Engstrom!!
Celebrating 50 years of marriage today.

Seeking New Committee Members
RTSC’s club committee consists of a number of parents of swimmers along with some other members who have been involved with the club over the years. We have monthly meetings at which we discuss the numerous topics which require attention in order to keep the club running as smoothly as possible.
Most committee members are tasked with looking after particular aspects of the club's make-up. This includes organising RTSC’s own galas, collecting quarterly fees, controlling poolside staffing, stocking the club shop and fulfilling the criteria required by the ASA to gain Swim 21 accreditation.
There are many other jobs that we do which are vital to the success and smooth running of the club. We are actively recruiting for enthusiastic volunteers to assist in a number of capacities. These include Club Secretary, Publicity Officer and Gala Volunteer Secretary.
If you are able to devote some time either in a committee role or just as a helper, either at galas or behind the scenes, please let a member of the committee know or email us at romfordtownsc@aol.com for further information.

Saturday 28th July - Stubbers Fun Activity Day
Saturday saw Romford Town's annual visit to Stubbers. The sun did not let us down and neither did 55 children from across the squads.
We would personally like to thank all of the children who attended this day for their impeccable behaviour and it was clear to see everyone had a great day . They really were a credit to the club. We would also like to thank all our fellow helper parents without whose involvement the day would not have been the success it was. See you all the same time, same place in 2013.
