The surprise winner here was - A Tent! Narrowly beating the Premier Inn by 1% of the votes, although we aren't sure which 25 of you actually stayed in tents? Less surprising was the fact that the Travelodge came last in the vote. A new poll is now available.

Sunday 18th July - RTSC Masters set new British Record

Congratulations to Martin Fenner (backstroke), David Ebanks (breaststroke), Tom Enright (butterfly) and Martin Lane (freestyle) for breaking the Britsh Record for the 160+ 4x100 metres Medley Relay at the Barnet Distance Meet.

Sunday 18th July - BWF End of Season Meet - Waltham Forest

Town's Junior squads wrapped up their season with some terrific swims at the BWF End of Season Meet.

    Sunday 27th June - Junior Swimming League (London Final) - Blackshots

    Town performed very well to claim third place on the night, beaten only by the Borough squads of Barnet and Camden and once again confirmed their position as top club in Essex.

    This third place finish when combined with our first and second spots in the first two rounds ensured a great second place finish in the overall league placings, only one league point behind Camden. This was a massive improvement on last year's 5th place and hugely encouraging for next season.

    Romford Town swimmers started from where they left off after the first weekend of District Championships with some super performances again.

    5th/6th June - London Swimming Championships - Crystal Palace

    This week saw Romford Town swimmers competing against the best of London in the first of two weekends of London District Championships. As always, there was a high contingent of Romford Town swimmers in attendance, competing in many finals and picking up medals.

    10th - 12th September 2010 - RTSC Team Building Weekend - Stubbers

    Open to secondary school children (year 7 upwards as at September 2010). The cost is £96 per child - this includes 2 nights camping, all meals and 7 professionally supervised activities from jet skiing to tunnelling (to be selected via the Registration Form - (those activities with the most votes will be undertaken during the weekend).

    This year we are also extending this opportunity to children below year 7 to attend a Day Course. The cost for this is £40.00 per head and will include the 7 activities and the Disco (where an adult will be required to accompany them), but they will not be able to camp with the older children.

    It is regrettable that, because we have left it so late to book this year, immediate payment in full will be required to secure your child's place. Cheques should be made payable to ‘RTSC’ and can be given to either Pat Farrell or Colin Hollington (B squad parents). Booking forms will be handed out within the next few days.

    30th September 2010 - RTSC Theatre Trip - 'Dirty Dancing'

    Open to all club members. The cost is £34.50 per person - including coach transport.

    If you would like any tickets please return Order Form to Joanne Coles.

    Romford swimmers again showed that they can take on some of the best from around the country as they racked up the medals at last weekend’s Level 1 meet.

    National Sports Centre, Crystal Palace

    With the Romford Town swimmers not breaking from their tough training schedule, many of the Youth team picked out a selective programme of swims at this weekend’s London Youth Championships at Crystal Palace’s, National Sports Centre. Some used the event as preparation for the Rotherham licenced level one meet at Sheffield in two weeks, though for all it was valuable long course practice.

    An astonishing weekend for Town's swimmers. A superb team spirit, impecible behaviour and . . . 119 medals. Well done everyone!

    Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th March - Essex Championships (Block D) - Blackshots

    What a great weekend! 46 medals (17 gold, 14 Silver and 15 Bronze). Sean Houlihan wins overall top swimmer title (Captains Trophy), and Dan Stepton (17+), Elena Sheridan (14) and Holly Hildrew (10) win top performer awards in their respective age groups.

    Saturday 20th March and Sunday 21st March - National Meet de Nice, France

    Romford Town juniors, 13years old Brock Whiston and 14 years Harry Coker followed last month’s successes by their older teammates in Luxembourg with medals of their own this weekend at the international age group competition in Nice, France. Travelling with the County’s best swimmers as part of the Ortus Londinium team, the Romford pair took on a tough two day programme and despite both being the youngest in a joint two years age group, came home with two medals each.

    Amy Marren lived up to her recent award as Havering's 'Junior Female Competitor of the Year' by picking up 6 National titles at the weekend:

    • 100m Freestyle - 1:14.92
    • 100m Backstroke - 1:23.53
    • 100m Individual Medley - 1:26.23
    • 50m Backstroke - 38.94
    • 50m Freestyle - 34.26
    • 400m Freestyle - 5:24.15

    Amy also came 2nd in the 50 metres Butterfly.

    Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th March - Essex Championships (Block C) - Braintree

    With only one weekend remaining of this year’s Essex County Age Group Championships, the competition is poised for an exciting finale as Romford moved up on the shoulder of current leaders Thurrock, just 40 team points adrift. Another thrilling weekend saw Romford Town swimmers amass 33 medals, fourteen Gold, eight Silver and seven Bronze.

    This month's social will take place after B Squad training this Friday. All members welcome.

    Sainsburys - Active Kids

    The RTSC collecting box has arrived, so now's the time for everyone to start collecting their vouchers. Vouchers are given for in-store purchases, for petrol and for on-line groceries. Last date for collection will be 8th June. Look out for the collecting box at Central Park on Sunday afternoon/evenings.

    Saturday 27th - C and D Squad T-20 Result

    Well done to all those that completed the T-20 at Abbs Cross on Saturday morning. The results show much how the squad as a whole has improved since the beginning of the season. Congratulations to Charlotte Chuck for chalking up over 50 lengths and to Emily Watts and Katie Trott who both did more than 25% more than in October.

    Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th February - Essex Championships (Block B) - Braintree

    We had a great weekend at the Essex Championships at Braintree. Winning 25 medals, 12 of which were Gold. Elena Sheridan was again in sparkling form, setting 4 Event Best Times. Seam Houlihan had his best weekend for some time, after a season of injury and illness, with 4 wins (all PBs).

    A week ago Town's senior swimmers were rubbing shoulders with Olympians in Luxembourg, so it was intriguing to watch our new crop of young swimmers embarking on their first competitive swimming experience. Our youngsters produced many performances of which we can be so proud. Who will have the talent and dedication to emulate our current star swimmers?

    Elena Sheridan sets 2 new County Records

    At the recent Luxembourg Meet, 14 year old Elena twice broke her existing Essex County Long Course Junior Record of 1:05.02 for 100m Butterfly.

    Elena recorded a time of 1:04.92 in the heats and bettered this with 1:04.82 in the final.

    29th-31st January - Euromeet 2010 Luxembourg

    James Davis, Sean Houlihan, Elena Sheridan and Daniel Stepton are in Luxembourg with the Ortus Londinium squad competing in this high level International Swim meet. Olympians such as the French Olympic 100m Gold medallist Alain Bernard and the USA backstroker Randall Bal are amongst the competition.

    Ortus Londinium comprises swimmers based in East London and Essex who are ranked in the Country's top 17 in their age and event.

    RTSC Chief Coach, Gary Rogers, is amongst the coaching team in Luxembourg.

    Essex County Championships 2010 - Revised Schedule of Events

    Essex County ASA have issued a revised schedule for Blocks C and D follow the postponment of several of the Block A events due to problems with the Thurrock Pool at Blackshots. Rescheduled events are highlighted in yellow in the revised schedule. Please note the following:

    • All rescheduled relay events will still be age as on 24th January 2010 and the swimmers must be from the relay pool that was submitted prior to Block A's closing date.
    • Any swimmer not able to swim in their rescheduled event will be entitled to a full refund.
    • Any swimmer that withdrew from their rescheduled event in block A will be resubmitted

    Town were well on top at the first Essex County Age Group weekend at Thurrock's Blackshots Pool when it was brought to the Referee’s attention that the water level appeared to be a little low and a halt was called to proceedings.

    Friday 15th to Sunday 17th January - Championnats Internationaux de Genève - Geneva, Switzerland

    14 years old Elena Sheridan was in outstanding form as Romford Town Swimming Club's sole representative in the select London Region Youth Team competing at this weekend’s three day International competition in Geneva.

    Essex League Division 2 at Colchester - CANCELLED

    The Essex League has cancelled this Saturday's gala due to the adverse weather conditions

    St Edwards Secondary and Junior School Pools closed on Thursday 7th January

    So there will be no swimming there tonight. Friday also looks doubtful. Will confirm as soon as we can.

    New D Squad Coach - Nic Rees

    Nic has been a member of Romford Town Swimming Club since the age of 7. She was 3rd in the National Swimming Championships at Freestyle when she was 11 years old. Nic teaches PE at Coopers Coburn School and still swims with A Squad.

    Millfield was a clear winner in our latest web poll, receiving 23% of the votes. Sheffield was second with 17%.

    Sunday 6th December - ASA East Region Disability Swimming Championships - Thetford, Norfolk

    New recruit Amy Marren set a new East Region record in the S10 category with her time of 1:15.48 in the 100m Freestyle. Swimming at the weekend she also gained the following medals:

    • Gold - 100m Back
    • Silver - 50m Back
    • Bronze - 100m Individual Medley and 100m Free

    Amy was top overall 11/12 year old girl.

    Saturday 5th/Sunday 6th December - Northampton SC Winter Festival - Corby

    Outstanding swimming and a great team spirit from Town at Corby’s brand new 50 metres pool

    Saturday 5th/Sunday 6th December - Guildford City SC Open Meet

    This weekend saw the annual outing to the City of Guildford's Open age group meet in preparation for the forthcoming Essex Age Group Championships due in the New Year.

    Saturday 5th December - Essex League Division 1 - Rochford

    With more than 50 swimmers away competing at open meets in either Guildford or Corby it was touch and go whether Town would even be able to muster a team for this season's first Division One gala, it was our magnificent masters section that came to our rescue and added some fantastic entertainment into the bargain.

    Over half of the team were gaining their first experience of a very tough Essex League competition and all did themselves proud on a night when our two main rivals in the competion were unable to field teams. Our equal 3rd place finish thus ensured that we still have a chance of retaining the league title for the 7th season running.
