Taunton Deane Gala Accomodation

For those of you that have not arranged accomodation for the Taunton Deane Gala in April, Taunton Deane SC have kindly made enquiries about the possibility of clubs staying in Taunton School and they will be happy to try and accomodate us.

Taunton School is a private boarding school which TDSC have a very close association with. The club trains in the school pool every day! It is about a 30 - 40 minute leisurely drive to Millfield School (most of TDSC will be travelling to the meet from Taunton).

The school will be able to provide mostly twin rooms. They will also be happy to provide meals and packed lunches as required. There is a fleet of coaches available to transport you to and back from Millfield, if you decide to travel by train (it will take 3 hours from Romford to Taunton, via Paddington). Taunton School's standard brochure is attached. In the brochure, there is a contact name, Ellie Humprey, who will be happy to discuss this with you. Please feel free to contact her directly.

If you are going down on the Friday, they will endeavour to make some pool time available for us to 'loosen up' either at the school or within walking distance (between 6 - 8 in the evening).

Friday 16th to Sunday 18th January - Geneva Open International Meet 2009

This weekend six Romford Town swimmers flew out to Switzerland for Geneva’s International Open meeting. They travelled as members of the recently established Ortis Londinium Swim Squad, made up of Essex swimmers ranked Nationally in the UK top 20, and competed against a number of teams from around Europe. This was the first experience of overseas competition for all of the Town swimmers taking part in this ‘Geneve Natation 1885’ Open Club event and all returned with at least one personal best performance time to their name.

External Sporting Achievements

Romford Town SC is aware that on many occasions it's members compete successfully outside of the RTSC club environment. For their Schools, Essex County, ASA camps, etc.

It is also common for our swimmers to achieve sporting success in other sports, eg Triathlon, Cross Country, Athletics, Football, Rugby, London Youth Games, etc. It is clear that many of these feats are achieved as a product of the high levels of fitness and stamina that have been developed through the training regimes delivered by the swimming club.

RTSC is therefore happy to promote the external achievements of it's members through this website and therefore Parents, Teachers/Coaches, Team-Mates and anyone else for that matter, are invited to email the club with information about any swimmers' successes that you feel are worthy of display on the site.

Please try to keep your item down to a paragraph or two and send to us at romfordtownsc@aol.com. We will endeavour to publish as many relevant stories as is practical.

St Edwards Pool Closure

Unfortunately, we were advised immediately before Christmas that St. Edwards Senior School Pool will be out of use from January in order for the roof to be insulated.

Given the holiday period, this late notice has made it impossible to provide a proper update of the cover we intend to offer from the start of the year for both Learn To Swim and the Squads. A new timetable will be made available to everyone as soon as possible. We are endeavouring to ensure all that use St.Edwards will get ample opportunity to swim.

In the long term this work will be of great benefit to all swimmers as they can learn or train in a warmer environment.

Timekeepers Course - January 2009

There has been an encouraging response from RTSC members for this 'one evening only' Timekeepers course to be held at Central Park. The course is likely to be held in January as soon as sufficient numbers have shown an interest. As a club we always need to provide timekeepers when we compete in league galas and we currently rely on a small dedicated group of qualified officials. The club needs as many qualified helpers as possible to ease the burden on those parents who are having to make themselves available for every competition. Please email us at: romfordtownsc@aol.com for more details or to apply.
